Effective June 30, 2026  ·  Last updated July 16, 2026

Ascenda (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of every family that uses our app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have as a parent or guardian. Please read this policy carefully. By using Ascenda, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Who We Are

Ascenda is a family productivity and parental control application built to help children earn screen time by completing tasks. Our app is operated by Marie Dougan, Founder of Ascenda.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

When you create an account or set up a child profile, we collect:

2.2 Content Submitted by Children

When children complete tasks through the app, they may submit:

This content is processed by our AI grading system (powered by Anthropic's Claude API) to evaluate task completion. See Section 6 (“AI Processing”) for details on how this content is handled and Section 8 (“Data Retention”) for how long it is kept.

2.3 Automatically Collected Information

When you use Ascenda we may automatically collect:

We do not collect precise location data.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.

4. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Ascenda is designed for use by children under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian. We take the privacy of children extremely seriously and comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

4.1 How Parental Consent Is Obtained

Parents must create and verify their own parent account and provide any consent required under applicable law before a child profile can be created. By creating a child profile, the parent affirmatively consents to the collection and use of that child’s information as described in this Policy. We do not create child profiles directly from a child’s device without a linked, verified parent account.

4.2 How Parents Can Review Their Child’s Information

Parents can view everything Ascenda holds about a child — profile details, task history, learning profile, and quiz answers — at any time from Settings → Child Profiles, or by requesting a full export at Settings → Privacy & Data → Export My Family’s Data.

4.3 How Parents Can Revoke Consent

Parents may revoke consent for any optional data collection (such as learning profile information or quiz answers) at any time. Revoking consent may limit or disable certain personalization features, but will not affect core app functionality.

4.4 How Parents Can Delete a Child’s Profile

Parents may revoke consent and request deletion of their child’s information at any time through Settings → Privacy & Data, or by contacting us directly at hello@ascendafamily.com.

4.5 What Happens When a Child Account Is Deleted

When a child’s profile is deleted, their name, age, task history, photos, learning profile, and quiz answers are permanently removed from active systems within 30 days, and from backups within 60–90 days, consistent with the retention schedule in Section 8. Aggregated or de-identified data that can no longer be linked to the child may be retained for product improvement purposes.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child without parental consent, please contact us immediately at hello@ascendafamily.com and we will delete it promptly.

5. Sensitive Information

As part of setting up a child’s profile, parents may optionally share learning-related information, such as whether a child has dyslexia, ADHD, autism, or general reading difficulties.

Learning profile information is optional and is used solely to personalize the app experience — for example, adjusting how Ascenda’s AI grades a task or presents instructions. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or medical purposes, and it is never shared with third parties for marketing.

Parents may decline to provide this information, update it, or remove it at any time from their child’s profile settings without losing access to core features.

6. AI Processing

Ascenda currently uses Anthropic’s Claude API to grade task submissions and generate feedback, and may use other AI providers in the future. When a child submits a task:

We store the resulting task scores and written feedback within your family account so parents can review progress over time — it is the underlying photos and audio that are not retained long-term.

7. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share information only in these limited circumstances:

We do not sell, rent, share, or use children’s personal information for targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising.

8. Data Retention Schedule

We retain different types of information for different lengths of time, depending on what it is and why we collect it. Our retention schedule is as follows:

Data TypeRetention Period
Task photosDeleted 24 hours after grading is complete, so parents have a chance to review their child’s submitted work before it is removed
Audio recordings (Read Aloud)Deleted 24 hours after grading is complete
Task scores, feedback, and written summariesRetained in your family account until you delete them or close your account
Deleted accountsPermanently removed from active systems within 30 days of deletion

Task photos and audio recordings may be retained longer than 24 hours where necessary to investigate fraud, abuse, or as required by law. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at hello@ascendafamily.com, or directly from Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete Account.

9. Your Rights and Choices

As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@ascendafamily.com. We will respond within 30 days.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse, including:

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach affecting personal information, we will take steps required by applicable law, including notifying affected users where legally required.

11. Device Permissions & Screen Time Management

To provide Ascenda’s features, the app may request access to the following device permissions:

We use these permissions solely to provide the app functionality described above, and do not collect device activity data beyond what is necessary to operate these features.

12. Third-Party Services

Ascenda integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

Information may be processed and stored in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Ascenda after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
